EL PASO, Oct 16, 2008 (El Paso Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) — DVA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating — Behind the cute kitty-wearing-sneakers logo for Sunday’s KAT Walk-a-thon is a serious message about the dangers of chronic kidney disease.

The boys, in padded armor, are being taught by coaches built like double-door refrigerators. The coaches are volunteers, men who don’t strip off neckties to coach. Many have physical, outdoor jobs. They sweat all day. They come straight from work. They don’t get supper until after 9 for five nights a week.

That’s how it has been for 40 years in the Tampa Bay Youth Football League. The beneficiaries have been tens of thousands of boys, rich and poor.

Being obese means there are risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, kidney disease and stroke, among others.

To manage obesity, the oft-heard advice from doctors and experts is to diet — by eating healthy food which means more fruits and vegetables — and engage in physical activities.

A sedentary lifestyle, after all, leads to obesity.
However, according to one expert, encouraging obese people to exercise is fine but there has not been enough guidance on how much exercise is needed.
